The DMORT-WMD Team is a specialized unit whose function is the search & recovery as well as decontamination of human remains for the ultimate purpose of returning these remains to family members where possible for humanitarian and legal reasons.

It is the mission of [the team] to maintain a state of readiness. All personnel are expected to pursue training in subjects which will keep them abreast of current technologies and practices, as well as making them ready for short notice deployment.
The DMORT/WMD Team will adhere to the recommendations of the medical examiner/coroner but will not compromise the safety of deployed personnel.

DMORT/WMD shall be under the control of DHS/OEP/NDMS/MST.
DMORT/WMD adheres to protocols as specified in the Incident Command System.

Special personnel requirements exist for the operation of the DMORT/WMD Team. The DMORT/WMD is task force organized. NBC, medical specialists, and augmentees may be attached to the DMORT/WMD from other agencies.
All personnel may not be HazMat specialized due to their responsibilities as support personnel only.
